Jonathan Gehlen is a Berlin based freelance designer specialized in event design and visual identities, blending utopian spirit with pragmatic optimism. He’s been working for 10+ years in music, culture and tech with clients such as Spotify, GetYourGuide and ZDF, MDR, WDR. He led the content design team at A Color Bright from 2020–2024, creating social media visuals for the german profiles of Spotify, TikTok, Netflix, ZDF Terra X and Deutsche Aidshilfe.

Visual identity For All Music Friday, Spotify's first German-speaking music summit, annually held since 2023 as a fraternal twin to the podcast conference the day before, established in 2022.

tightly collaborating with my colleagues at A Color Bright and the event agency OPeNeRS, I have been fortunate enough to be involved in both events from the very beginning as design lead.

A multi-hall venue switching from podcast conference to music summit overnight: The branding for All Music Friday aims to share as many common onsite elements as possible with All Ears the day before, while creating a pivotal change in mood: In opposite to the podcasters’ warm orange hexagons, a system of black metaballs that drift apart and melt back together visualize the music industry and enables flexible application.

BailoteoRadio Sabor

Visual branding and design toolkit for the bailoteo party series. Big hugs to niklas perez and the radio sabor team for trusting me with their new party series and the great realisation on-site.

AI-generated images facilitate the monthly process of flyer iterations, as does a simple template system of the vibrant neon papers accomodating any additional information.

This insane new monthly perreo party at a rough junkyard in the outskirts of Cologne demanded a visual identity that avoids stereotypes while being ownable and self-explanatory by and to the community. Bailoteo’s toolkit allows quick production of social media content and brings the spirit of dembow and reggaeton to large projections in the backyard.

event design for the company’s annual summer party, called getyourguide festival – hosted by event agency openers.

we applied getyourguide’s branding to an old powerstation, creating dj boothes, menus, photo opps, games consoles, etc.

GetYourGuide is a leading travel platform for booking various experiences. They invited their colleagues from 17 global offices to Berlin in 2022 and 2023 for their Summit Week, rounded off with a party, the GetYourGuide Festival. I enjoyed to work with the boutique event agency Openers on the festivals’ onsite design both years.

The venture capital firm Cherry Ventures invited its founders and friends to a castle in the hills of Piedmont that summer. The branding of ‘Cherry Retreat 2023’ aimed to inspire and nurture a sense of well-being. Its visuality augmented the inherent Renaissance character of the venue with Cherry Ventures' bold contemporary vibe.

Haufe Akademie

our team at a color bright developed the new Haufe Akademie brand plus toolkit and design system In close coordination with their internal brand experience team and business units.

I’ve focussed on social media, including design logics and a comprehensive guidelines that meet the needs of around 70 marketing managers who work with it on a daily basis.

2024

As part of Haufe Akademie’s rebrand handled by A Color Bright, the new social media design system of one of Germany’s biggest learning and development provider is both clear and aspirational. Various templates for paid content are automated as much as possible; vice versa, designers of organic posts can draw from a dynamic palette of building blocks to match their story and tonality.

ACB Stories develop and produce podcasts. Their focus is on news formats and narrative documentary series with topics ranging from pop culture to politics and everything in between. Podcast artworks are interesting blends of the immersive qualities of book covers and the ability of digital thumbnails to function as miniatures.

RIDDIM Magazine

editorial design and art direction for the quarterly published print magagzine, keeping riddim visually progressive and contemporary – disproving clichés about reggae music.

I as well took care of Riddim’s digital marketing communication,  ranging from ads on social media to the coordination of live-streamed events.
